Trenchless sewer repairis clearly a preferred method for both residential and commercial sewers. More and more people are discovering alternatives to digging up your lawn or tearing up driveways or any other obstacles that cannot be uprooted.

It is nice to have alternatives to the traditional methods of digging up your sewers. Trenchless pipe bursting is one of these alternatives. It uses a burst head that is pulled through an existing pipe and will literally “burst” it and pulls a new pipe in its place at the same time. Another, popular alternative is trenchless sewer pipe relining this also does not require digging up the yard. You typically can go through a clean out. First the pipe must be cleaned with a hydro jetter and then it must be sewer camera inspected. When the pipe is good and ready you shoot a liner down it and it is followed by a balloon that puts it in place and it is then cured in place where it hardens into a single continuous piece of pipe that will last a very long time and it does not allow roots to penetrate the new pipe.

To a lot of people repairing your sewer lines is a big deal as it requires much considerations, do I dig or not dig? We say NO DIG!

Our last blog was about hydro excavating trucks and how cool we thought they look. Well today we thought let’s keep the cool looking truck theme going. So, here we are directional drilling trucks. It is also often referred to as horizontal drilling and this technology is very much in demand. I can’t even begin to stress the amount of directional boring calls we receive on a daily basis.

This is a type of trenchless technology that you can actually steer and direct the direction of the hole. This process is great when you cannot trench or dig as a lot of times you are trying to avoid underground utilities. This type of installation can accommodate just about any length or size needed, as a matter of fact I read somewhere that one job they did over 6,500 feet and read another job was 58 inches in diameter. That my friends is pretty impressive.

The horizontal boring trucks come in all different shapes and sizes. For larger bores they have trucks that pull 100,000 lbs. Now, that is some serious pulling power. So the next time you see one of these trucks, please understand that is one skilled technician behind the wheel!

Today, I thought I would write about what happens here on a daily basis. We never know what type of phone calls we receive for trenchless sewer relining. The calls start very early and last all day long, everything from hydro jetting service to directional boring.

Today a call came in from a gentleman in Minnesota and he was renovating an entire trailer park. He has over 125 lots and the sewer main needs to be completely relined or use trenchless pipeburstingmethod. Needless to say, my plumber who took the call was very happy and jumped right on it! Who could blame him that’s a great lead.

We had a camera job that came in from Chicago and it turns out it’s for a commercial building at 50,000 square feet. Obviously, anyone who offers camera work would love to get a great quality lead like this one.

In Ohio, we had a project manager call in to schedule a job walk at a local Wal-Mart because they need to reline the entire main line. My plumber in Ohio literally stopped everything and went straight there.

These are only a few of the types of calls we get on a daily basis, however, don’t think for one minute they are all this great. Today we got a call from a contractor who wanted to reline a restaurant in San Jose, however, when my plumber got there he discovered the contractor broke his snake off in the “Y” and never really needed it lined…

When speaking to customers who decided on trenchless sewer relining overwhelmingly the answer I get is YES we are soo glad we did it. When I ask them why? – the answer is piece of mind and satisfaction that roots cannot penetrate the new liner. There was a gentlemen who I spoke to that told me he has jetted his line twice a year for the last 10 years! He then decided on replacing his sewer and did some searches online (keep in mind the guy is in his early 60’s – the power of the internet) and stumbled across one our sites and he discovered “trenchless”. He said he watched one of our videos and could not believe this technology existed, had he known he would of fixed his sewer years ago. He has mature landscaping and the sewer line runs underneath his garage and driveway. He was told by a local plumber it would cost $21,000 to dig it up. Our plumber who is in Michigan did the entire job for $7,800 using new trenchless lining technology. That is a pretty good savings. I asked him, what made you decide to finally repair your sewer other than not knowing about this methodology. He told me he wasn’t going to live forever and he is leaving his house to his daughter and two grandchildren. So I can say this, we really enjoy what we do and the service we provide to consumers and plumbers nationwide.

I was asked by one of my colleagues to write this particular blog today. You see, I am one of those weird people who believes you should always help out a stranger in need. Well, keep in mind I live in Hollywood, CA and let me tell ya we have some “strangers” here.

So I am out walking with my wife and we are pushing our kids in the stroller, it’s about a 95 degree day. As we are walking up the street I notice this woman in a wheel chair who happens to be blind. I should also note, she appears downtrodden and seems to weigh in at 300lbs. I could also see she may not bathe on a regular basis. As we walk pass, she asked me, “excuse me sir, could you help me out.” I immediately stopped and asked her what could I do for you? She replied, “would you mind pushing me to the grocery store so I can get some food”. I knew of the grocery store she spoke of, it was a solid three blocks away. I turned looked at my wife, smiled and replied to the lady and said, “sure.”

As I reached over and grabbed the hand grips of the wheelchair I noticed the grips were warm and greasy. I have weak gag reflex, so in my mind I was telling myself to remain strong and lets just get this done. A couple of things come to mind at this point, one is I will remind you that it is 95 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. As we begin to head to the grocery store, we were on a slight downgrade it was then it dawned on me what I had gotten myself into..greasy hand grips and a 300lb woman, and since I was “downwind” I was greeted by a constant waffing of her body odor (did I mention its 95 degrees?).  I then began to pick up speed as I desperately tried to hold on with all my might and my wife is now chasing me with two kids in a stroller.

At this point I am concerned as we were approaching a four way traffic stop and by my calculations I’m going to have to get this wheelchair to stop cause the light is red. In my head I’m like, my God I don’t want to kill this lady, it was at that moment she turned over her shoulder and said “think we’re going too fast, we should probably slow down”… So with all my might, grasping on to greasy hand grips, sweating profusely I let out a big grunt, like power lifters do at weight lifting competitions.  Low and behold I got the wheelchair to stop, it wasn’t perfect cause we jumped the curb and she nearly fell out. But, we were stopped! Light turns green and I proceed to push her to the grocery store where she thanked me over and over.

Sometimes when you decide to help strangers you never know what you’re gonna get.

We decided every now and then to profile one our plumbers in our nationwide network. Mainly for you the reader but also to have our other plumbers meet new plumbers all across the county.

We selected the Bevilacqua’s because they have an interesting story – one that spans all the back to 1039 AD. You see,back then in Palermo Sicily they were gong through a nasty drought that lasted several years. A noble man came forward and proposed an idea of creating an Aqua-Duct to carry water to the people. Well this noble man succeeded and the town’s peopled called him “Bevilacqua” which means “drink water”.

Since then the Bevilacqua family has had a plumber in every single generation. Today Fred Bevilacqua and his son Anthony both are passionate men who specialize in trenchless sewer repair

Hydro Jet plumbing is a when a high pressure water house is inserted in a pipe and is scoured by streams of high-pressure water shooting out of a hose at up to 3,500 psi.

It is usually done through an opening called a “clean out”. This opening or “clean out” access allows a plumber to hydro jet the pipe line and clear out any debris. The hose is generally placed downstream and it forces the pressurized water up to 3,500 psi or 18 gallons of water per minute upstream. Most hydro jet plumbers can clear a line up to a couple hundred feet.
